Pork and Sage Burgers

If the lure of the burger is proving too strong then try this tasty low fat recipe for pork and sage burgers. Adding apple, red pepper and onion adds a tasty new dimension. Serving with salsa or low fat mayo in a toasted bun takes the calories to just under 300 - a fabulous lunch. Your friends won't believe this is diet food.

Pork and sage burgers

Ingredients

  • 400g minced pork
  • 2 tsps vegetable stock powder
  • 2 eating apples, grated
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh sage
  • 1 red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 red pepper, deseeded and finely chopped
  • freshly ground black pepper

Cooking Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to high.
  2. Put all the ingredients in a bowl, mix well to combine and season with black pepper. Divide into 4 and mould into burgers, squashing flat with your hand.
  3. Cook the burgers under the hot grill for 10-15 minutes, turning regularly.
  4. Test they are cooked through to the centre by inserting a knife-if the blade comes out clean, the meat is cooked.
  5. Serve with salad and tomato salsa.

Tips

Thread whole sage leaves in between meats and vegetables on skewers to make kebabs.
